Low Energy Compton Scattering and Nucleon Structure
The low energy virtual Compton scattering process eN → eNγ offers a new and potentially high resolution window on nucleon structure via measurement of so-called generalized polarizabilities (GPs). We present calculations of GPs within heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory and discuss present experimental efforts.
متن کاملLow-energy Compton scattering on the nucleon and sum rules
The Gerasimov-Drell-Hearn and Baldin-Lapidus sum rules are evaluated in a relativistic, unitary, crossing symmetric and gauge-invariant model for photon-induced reactions on the nucleon. The property of analyticity is partially incorporated through a dressing procedure for propagators and vertices. The sum α + β of the electric and magnetic polarisabilities and the forward spin polarisability γ...
متن کاملLow-Energy Compton Scattering of Polarized Photons on Polarized Nucleons
The general structure of the cross section of γN scattering with polarized photon and/or nucleon in initial and/or final state is systematically described and exposed through invariant amplitudes. A low-energy expansion of the cross section up to and including the order O(ω4) is given which involves ten structure parameters of the nucleon (dipole, quadrupole, dispersion, and spin polarizabiliti...
متن کاملP–violating effects in low–energy Compton scattering
Parity of effects induced by one loop corrections of Standard model of Compton scattering are considered. We note the main effects arise from W contributions. Keeping in the mind scheme independent gauge invariance amplitude we calculated the one spin asymmetries for the case when initial electron is polarized and the case of circular polarized photon. They are of order 10−13. The effect of Com...
متن کاملThe GEANT Low Energy Compton Scattering (GLECS) Package for use in Simulating Advanced Compton Telescopes
Compton gamma-ray imaging is inherently based on the assumption of gamma rays scattering with free electrons. In reality, the non-zero momentum of target electrons bound in atoms blurs this ideal scattering response in a process known as Doppler broadening. The design and understanding of advanced Compton telescopes thus depends critically on the ability to accurately account for Doppler broade...
